Reading
comprehension: The ability to understand printed
words. This requires recognition of letters and words (the ability
to correctly see the letters and match them to each other). Reading
also requires good visual scanning (the ability to visually follow
along a line of text, and then carry down to the next line). Good
reading skills also require compensation for any visual neglect
(ignoring things on one side or the other). Some reading requires
making inferences, or "reading between the lines". Functional
reading refers to the ability to read everyday information such
as schedules, warning labels, directions etc. accurately. Oral reading
refers to the ability to see a word in print and speak it aloud
