"I have been using the disc with a 7 year old hearing impaired student and she is loving it. I have also had wonderful success with many of my articulation therapy kids - who just haven't been able to move onto using the sound in words. The disc is just amazing in helping them. They just love it. The mouth positions are so clear - they really seem to help.

"This is just a short note to thank you for the wonderful CD, Speech Sounds on Cue. We thought it was so beneficial for Rebecca that we showed it to her Special Education Unit. Many of the parents are now interested in purchasing it as well as the Unit.
Rebecca has found the CD very easy to follow, she can use it by herself to practice when she likes, or waits for parental supervision.
Hope there are many more CDs to come."

"The visual aspect and written and spoken sentences have been of great value to our student. (13 year old girl with Down Syndrome). Her speech clarity has improved. Her vocabulary has increased and she now uses a greater variety of sentence structures in her everyday speech."

"We got the new Speech Sounds to replace Dyspraxia Drills and it works on the Mac.
Steve likes the new interface and since he's farther along in practice,
he's able to respond to many of the words which helps him feel successful.
Having the repeat button was something we could have used earlier in
recovery which could help other folks in the same situation.
There are a few words that have an Australian pronunciation, but our
therapist did not think that was a problem. Steve teases me and can respond
with and without the accent!

"Your program makes life much easier for me. Working on his own gives my husband a greater sense of achievement.

"The CD is working incredibly well with the autistic group who seem really interested in focusing on the detail of the mouth on the screen….Good Luck Carol and well done with such an innovative and much needed program. I am in the process of writing a book for parents with another mum at the moment and you can be sure your work will feature. The success for the autistic kids certainly seems to be the two dimensional representation and visual input - .it appeals to their sensory strengths and preference for self-taught and paced activities."

Jeanette's Story
"Life was close to perfect.
Jeanette had a wonderful husband, a new house right on the beach and an exciting, high-powered job as the executive assistant to the manager of a large company.
Then in July 1998, Jeanette's busy life came to a sudden halt when she had a severe stroke and found that she couldn't talk or move her right side. When she left hospital months later, she was still in a wheelchair and totally frustrated by her inability to communicate. She now says she knew what she wanted to say but she just couldn't say the right words. She felt "numb" for a long time after her stroke and avoided social situations.
With the help of two speech pathologists and daily practice with her father, she gradually began to relearn how to understand what people were saying and how to produce speech sounds.
On discharge from her rehabilitation center over a year later, she had shown some improvement in understanding speech and could express herself slowly using single words (not always pronounced correctly) with occasional two word phrases.
Jeanette wasn't ready to give up. She felt very strongly that she could keep on improving. Her private speech and language therapist introduced her to a computer program which allowed her to work on her speech independently at home with a monthly review. She quickly learnt to use the mouse with her left hand and worked on her own for two hours a day. She says the 'Speech Sounds on Cue' program "helped immensely". She learnt how to produce her sounds and pronounce words and phrases faster and more accurately.
In April 2000, Jeanette purchased the REACT program after trying it with her speech and language therapist. She found the tasks very challenging at first, but they really helped her with constructing sentences and understanding complex language. In time she mastered difficult vocabulary such as body parts and spatial words.
Now Jeanette loves socialising and says she feels confident to join in conversations using phrases and short sentences. She enjoys going out to dinner, movies and visiting friends. Her highlight last year was to fly to the Gold Coast for a holiday with her husband. She has recently taken up a new hobby - watercolour painting and has produced some beautiful beach scenes.
Jeanette's advice to other stroke recoverers is "determination and work…work…work…."
We would like to thank Jeanette and Keith Parker for sharing their story.
